Weekly Update!

Happy Valentine's Day! We started the day with Helen wowing us with her musical talent at the first recital of 2020 in Bannard Chapel. Way to go Helen! Then we enjoyed exchanging valentines and eating yummy cupcakes. It's always wonderful to see the girls show extra kindness to their friends and classmates (and teacher of course)! Click here for some pictures from today.

We had a productive week in math. We spent most of the week reviewing for the math test, and the girls did well. I handed out copies of the answer keys that I created for the addition and subtraction mental math reviews (that the girls completed in class). They were allowed to use these during the test. They really took their time and showed their work. I am very proud of their efforts with this challenging unit. We will begin Unit 7 next week, which covers multiplying and dividing with 4, 5, and 10.
Tuesday was National Inventors Day. We read the book "Have You Thanked an Inventor Today" by Patrice McLaurin. This adorable rhyming book highlights the often forgotten contributions of African American inventors. Then the girls enjoyed sharing their ideas for their own inventions.
In writing, the girls applied their knowledge of nouns, verbs, and adjectives to complete a fun Valentine's Day Mad Lib. They brought their funny stories home in their Chevron folders today. Also, they made heart animals and started writing about their adventures in the Valentine Zoo.

In social studies, we picked back up with our unit on the Solar System. The girls continued to do research and worked on completing their flipbooks.
