Weekly Update!

Big/Little Sister Kickoff Event on Thursday

We had a fantastic week! In math, we reviewed how to add and subtract two-digit numbers without renaming using mental math and number bonds. Also, we spent a lot of time working on part-whole and comparison word problems. See below for examples we discussed in class. I really confused the girls at first when I showed them the word problems without any numbers! However, they quickly caught on that this helps us determine what the problem is asking us to do and the relationships between the numbers. The girls had fun guessing what the numbers might be. Comparison word problems (i.e problems which contain the keywords "more" and "fewer") are proving to be the most difficult to master. We will continue to practice these in the coming weeks.

In writing, the girls finished typing their Acrostic poems using the class computers. We will wrap up the illustrations this week and move onto our next poem of the month. In addition, we discussed what a sentence is and how the first letter should be capitalized as well as ending punctuation. Also, we briefly discussed subjects and verbs.

In science, the girls continued to work on their Flipgrid oceans unit reflections. Flipgrid is fun video sharing platform. When all of the girls have completed their reflections, I will upload this to our website.

On Thursday, the girls had a wonderful time getting to know their Big Sisters as they painted Kindness Rocks. Click here to see photos from this event.

* October 9th- Reading group information meeting- 8:15-9:00am- Location: Lower School Assembly Room
* October 14th- Student holiday.
* October 16th- Maymont field trip- 9:15am-1:15pm- Attire is field trip top with jeans and sneakers.
* October 30th- Conference Day- I will be putting together a Sign-Up Genius this weekend. Look for an e-mail notification by Monday.
