Weekly Update!

I took this picture while we were standing on the T. Tyler Potterfield Memorial Bridge this past Tuesday. The weather was perfect and a fun time was had by all! Thank you to Mr. Armstrong for chaperoning! Also, the girls got on Mentimeter.com and voted on their favorite part of the trip. Their votes were turned into a Word Cloud (see below). The more votes the bigger the word.  Click here to see more pictures from our field trip.

In math, we wrapped up our unit on measurement and the girls took an informal assessment on Thursday. I decided to forgo the formal test, which was originally scheduled for next Tuesday. Since Thanksgiving is next week (and it was a very short unit), I thought it was best to wrap things up more quickly. Overall the girls did great, but the score will not be included in the grade book (just an FYI). On Friday, we started our next unit on multiplication and division. The girls had fun getting into equal groups (five groups with three girls in each group and three groups of five). Also, they worked in groups of 2-3 to divide up 40 "cookies" into equal groups. I kept this activity open-ended, and they very quickly figured out all the different possibilities. This is building the foundation for factors and multiples in the later grades, and the girls amazed me with their knowledge. Click here for some cute pictures of this activity.

In social studies, we worked on our A to Z book and enjoyed our field trip on Tuesday. In writing, we started a unit on personal narratives. We talked about what a personal narrative is, and we looked at some good examples. In addition, the girls brainstormed ideas for their own personal narrative stories. They are very excited about this unit!
